Uno degli aspetti più interessanti della spedizione è stato vivere a fondo i diversi volti di queste due nazioni, Malawi e Zambia, spendendo più giorni in pochi, indimenticabili, luoghi; sono 9 le notti che abbiamo speso tra il South Luangwa national park e il Liwonde national park. Non viaggiando solo pensando a raggiungere una meta o a spostarci rapidamente da un luogo ad un altro; abbiamo goduto invece degli infiniti momenti senza rinunciare a dettagli, forme, immagini e soggetti, passandovi accanto con lentezza. Arrivare al South Luangwa National Park dopo 150 km di faticosa pista è una conquista coronata solo dallimmergersi nei safari e nelle meraviglie di un ambiente ancora incontaminato. Attraversare il cuore dellAfrica per giungere sulle rive del fiume Shire, nel Liwonde national park, richiede tempo per godersi il fiume, i safari in barca, le cene accanto al fuoco in un ecosistema unico e leggendario. 'Sprecare' il tempo in Africa è fondamentale, i sensi si appropriano del mondo intorno a noi senza alcuna barriera. Il South Luangwa National Park rappresenta il cuore di un incantevole ecosistema che vanta antilopi, zebre, bufali, elefanti e unabbondanza di predatori: leoni, sciacalli, iene, ghepardi, piccoli branchi di licaoni ormai in via destinzione e, non ultimo e relativamente semplice da avvistare, il leopardo. Il parco ospita inoltre due rarità endemiche: la giraffa di Thornicroft e lo gnu di Cookson. Un vero paradiso anche dal punto di vista ornitologico con più di 700 specie di uccelli. Il Liwonde National Park, parco nazionale più importante del Malawi, si snoda lungo il mitico fiume Shire che vanta altissime densità di elefanti, antilopi, bufali e un'abbondanza di coccodrilli; centinaia di specie di uccelli popolano il parco: un vero paradiso ornitologico. Visiteremo inoltre il Rhino Sanctuary, importante progetto di reintroduzione del rinoceronte nero, animale a rischio di estinzione. Il Lago Malawi, terzo lago più grande dellAfrica, dalle acque limpide e dalle spiagge bianche che non ha nulla da invidiare alle nostre coste italiane. Ospita circa 550 specie di pesci dai colori stupendi e affascinanti, ippopotami, coccodrilli: è l'habitat naturale per diverse varietà di uccelli. I mercati e i villaggi saranno la cornice perfetta con i loro colori, i loro profumi e con l'allegria e l'ospitalità tipiche delle popolazioni locali. Le grandi città africane con i loro incredibili ritmi e contrasti, le architetture coloniali e le atmosfere magiche come il sole che si prepara allo spettacolo serale del tramonto.
